How much does travel insurance to France cost?
Getting a good deal on your travel insurance to France should be a top priority. Luckily, there are plenty of great policies offered at discounted prices, providing cheap policies, without losing quality.

To give you an idea of how much you can expect to spend on your insurance, I’ve made some rough estimates. Note that the final cost of your insurance will depend on a number of different factors.
Here are some average prices for travel insurance to France in 2025:
- 26 € per week for short trips.
- 52 € per month for long trips, nomadic or business travel.
- 86 € per month for business travel (Working Holiday).
- 51 € per month for overseas study travel.
How to take out travel insurance for France
The websites we’ve mentioned in this post are all easy to navigate, so you shouldn’t have any trouble taking out your policy.
To make it just that little bit easier for you, I’ve outlined each step for contracting your travel insurance:
- Go to the website of the insurer of your choice and click on the insurance plan that you want to contract.
- Once you have selected the insurance, you will see a “Contract” button, or something similar. Click to start the contracting process.
- Once there, fill in your trip details. This will include the duration of your trip, the number of travellers contracting insurance, and the countries you’ll be visiting. Check the policy’s renewal terms for trips lasting longer than 12 months. For travel to the Schengen zone, select the option that says either, “Europe,” or “World excluding US/Canada.”
- Fill in the details of each traveller and add a supplement if necessary. This is usually the cancellation or adventure sports option. If you’re going skiing in France, for example, you’ll want to ensure you have a winter sports supplement.
- Read the insurance conditions carefully, and that’s it. You’ll now have Schengen-approved travel insurance in France!
Is France safe for travellers?
France is generally a safe country, but as with any country that receives such a high volume of foreign visitors each year, theft and pickpocketing is common.
If you’re travelling in the big cities of Paris, Marseille, Nice, or Lyon, always stay vigilant and never leave your belongings unattended. It’s also a good idea to travel with a photocopy of your passport, instead of the real thing.
